A Year of Service develops your real-world experience while transforming our community. United Way of the Piedmont is proud to host two AmeriCorps national service programs.

AmeriCorps

direct service

AmeriCorps is a nationwide service program, and every local program is different. United Way of the Piedmont Direct Service positions are all paid, part-time commitments.

United Way of the Piedmont's AmeriCorps Direct Service Members serve as Teacher Support Specialists in local elementary schools, serving teachers and students and promoting academic success.

AmeriCorps VISTA

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) is a nationwide service program designed to fight poverty in communities across the United States. United Way of the Piedmont's VISTA program focuses on building the capacity of education, health, and economic mobility-focused nonprofit organizations so that they may better serve our community and accomplish their missions.

As full-time capacity-builders, VISTA members serve "behind the scenes" in a variety of roles such as program development, marketing, grant writing, and research.

By hosting a VISTA member, your nonprofit organization can benefit from their skills, energy, and dedication to help build capacity and increase impact. VISTA members can assist with a wide range of activities including grant writing, volunteer management, and program development.

Americorps - Direct Service

Americorps is a nation-wide service program and every local program is a little different. United Way of the Piedmont's Americorps Direct-Service members serve as Financial Stability Navigators at local organizations to address critical community needs related to economic opportunity.

Members directly serve families in need by providing care coordination, financial literacy services, preparing and filing income tax returns for free, and assisting households to apply for state and federal benefits.
