Spartanburg, S.C. (February 2023) – United Way of the Piedmont (UWP) Vision Councils recently completed the Community Investment Process, a nearly year-long operation whereby Council members receive applications for funding from local community programs. Those that receive this United Way funding demonstrate measurable impact in the community as well as the organizational strength to accomplish their mission. These programs will receive United Way funding for the next three years as a result of the Vision Councils’ recommendations.
In its latest report to the community, UWP breaks down this process and how the Vision Councils work. The Vision Councils are comprised of members who are local issue experts and/or community leaders. They meet regularly to tackle some of the area’s biggest issues like economic mobility, education, and health.
There are five Vision Councils – groups of trained community volunteers who also conduct site visits and interviews for proposed funding locations. They are: Union County, Cherokee County, Spartanburg – Education, Spartanburg – Health & Safe Environments, and Spartanburg – Economic Mobility & Basic Needs. Final funding decisions are then submitted to UWP’s board of directors for approval.
